A useful Clan, not another obligation
The energy surrounding the 2023 Gathering was extraordinary. The next stage does not need to begin with endless committees. It can begin by making the Clan useful again: preserving sources, answering research questions, publishing family stories and keeping people connected.
Ways to take part
- Share a researched family biography or migration story.
- Send a photograph and help identify the people in it.
- Tell us which Mayo parish or townland your branch came from.
- Submit a genealogy question or a record that may help another branch.
- Suggest a notable Mac Hale, historic place or family story for the site.
- Help document a local cemetery, church or townland with strong Mac Hale connections.
People & Places
The community section will grow into a collection of notable people, Mayo places, family biographies, migration stories and lighter features from the worldwide diaspora.
Archbishop John MacHale
The “Lion of the West” remains one of the most prominent historical bearers of the name and a natural anchor for a future biographical feature.
Lahardane & Addergoole
The 2023 tour connected family history with John MacHale's birthplace, Father Andrew Conroy and a landscape rich in local memory.
Turlough
The round tower, graveyard and concentration of McHale memorials make Turlough an especially vivid place for surname research.
Crossmolina & north Mayo
Crossmolina and surrounding districts recur in Clan research and will receive dedicated, sourced place pages as the archive is developed.
The Rising Phoenix
The Clan launched The Rising Phoenix in 2022 as a planned quarterly newsletter. Two editions were published. A Winter 2023 third edition was drafted but never released and is preserved as an unpublished draft in the Clan archive.
